About the Artist

Born in 1974 and raised in the Scottish Borders Greg Howard has been painting and illustrating in watercolour for over fifteen years. As an artist Greg has been fortunate as he was not only raised in one of the most picturesque areas of the U.K but also lived in the Cumbrian Lake District a source of inspiration for countless artists. He now lives in Chesterfield just on the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District. Due to this, inspiration for his atmospheric, richly coloured watercolours has never been hard to find and landscape paintings were an obvious choice of subject for Greg.
Greg has described his painting as "a never-ending quest to depict the ever-changing moods and nuances of nature and his personal endeavor to help people appreciate the natural beauty of the country they live in".
We feel sure you will enjoy viewing the paintings in the art gallery.

A personal note from Greg:

Although there is a fair amount of detail in some of my work I sometimes feel that allowing the viewer to fill in some of the blanks themselves allows for a much more creative approach to be employed in the actual act of painting and admittedly I have sometimes used some unorthodox techniques to get that elusive texture that will bring a painting to life.

I have often been asked what I think it is that makes a successful landscape painting? There are of course numerous answers that could be given to this question but personally I think that if you can get your viewer to mentally invent the landscape beyond the area that you have painted then you have created a successful painting.

Anyway thank you for taking the time to visit the site and I sincerely
hope that you enjoy looking through my watercolour galleries."

Kind regards.

Greg

One of the main problems I have had over the years is when I am trying to buy supplies. If you are anything like me you usually need to browse through at least five or six sites just to find what you are looking for in amongst all the other art supplies. Well there is a solution! A new site has popped up called The Watercolour Artist.com and I have found it a godsend. Why? Well as the name suggests they only sell art supplies for watercolour artists. It doesn't stop there though not only can you buy heavily discounted watercolour supplies but you can also purchase watercolour tuition dvd's & books, access 100's of free tutorial and free professional resources for artists looking to further their careers. They also have a members gallery that you can join free of charge where you can exhibit your work on your very own gallery page. Anyway why not go and see for yourself!

Exhibition - Leabrooks Gallery, Somercotes, Derbyshire
Oct 6th - Nov 1st

I will be holding my usual annual exhibition of new work at Leabrooks Gallery in Somercotes starting October 6th and running through to 1st November. As this is my only exhibition this year due to other commitments this will be your only chance to view my new work. The work on show this year has never been exhibited and has not been previewed on the web-site either so visitors will be in for a treat.

Leabrooks Gallery is within easy reach of the M1 and has a reputation for attracting an increasingly high calibre of artist. Refreshments available. For directions to the gallery visit http://www.leabrooksgallery.co.uk

"My paintings are the result of many years studying the beautiful scenery that we are lucky enough to have in abundance in the U.K. I have found watercolour to be the perfect medium to capture the mood and atmosphere  of the places that I have been privileged enough to live in and visit through the careful use of colour and texture.
